1. What is limewash-paint?

Limewash-paint is a non-dusty modified natural paint made from ingredients including calcined clay, lime-stone, etc for a breathable, ultra-matt finish that is perfect for most interior walls & ceilings. Lakeland's Limewash-Paint is non-spatter, thick, creamy, super-easy to use and completely solvent-free, VOC-free, and independently tested to guarantee 0.00% VOCs.

2. What does limewash-paint do?

Limewash-paint allows walls to "breathe," making it excellent for regulating humidity and preventing dampness. It creates a super-matt non-dusty finish and is naturally resistant to mould and bacteria. Lakelands' Limewash-Paint goes further by being free from harmful solvents and VOCs, making it safe for homes, including nurseries, children's bedrooms, and spaces used by people with asthma or chemical sensitivities.

3. Does limewash-paint rub off?

No - Lakelands' Limewash-Paint forms a durable, reinforced layer that resists rubbing off. However, like traditional lime-based products, it has a slightly uneven finish which can be accentuated if preferred.

4. What's the difference between limewash-paint and limewash?

Traditional limewash is a milky-thin lime-and-water mixture that requires more preparation and maintenance. Lakeland Limewash-Paint, on the other hand, is pre-mixed with advanced technology for enhanced durability, consistency, and ease of use. It's available in white and 372 stunning colours, unlike the limited colour palette of traditional limewash.

5. Do you need to seal limewash paint?

No - Sealing isn't required for most applications, as limewash-paint is naturally breathable and durable.

6. How long does limewash-paint last?

With proper application, Lakelands' Limewash-Paint will last for many years & decades. Its long-lasting finish is due to its reinforced formulation, which outperforms traditional limewash products. Reapplication may be eventually needed in high-wear areas, but its durability makes it a low-maintenance choice.

7. Can you use limewash-paint over existing paint?

Yes, Lakeland Limewash-Paint can be applied over existing paint, provided the surface is clean, grease-free, and properly prepared. It's well suited to porous surfaces but is also ideally suited to previously painted walls and ceilings too. Two coats are recommended for optimal coverage.

8. Do you need a special brush for limewash paint?

While a medium pile roller is ideal for most applications, brushes can be used for cutting-in, corners, edges, and intricate areas. For a textured finish, professionals may opt for specialized limewash brushes - pls ask for advice or see online tutorials.

9. How do you apply limewash-paint?

To apply Limewash-Paint, just ensure the surface is clean, sound, and dry. Stir thoroughly and avoid applying in direct sunlight or extreme temperatures (below 5°C or above 25°C). Apply two coats with a medium pile roller, allowing at least 4 hours of drying time between coats. Refer to the online product PDF for more information.

10. How do you clean limewash-paint?

While its durable formula easily resists everyday wear, if a washable finish is required then it's maybe better to choose a different product - here at Lakeland Paints we have 43 types of paints for all sorts of applications.

Just what was needed for the ancient cellar in a listed building. I was amazed at how well just two coats of limewash covered old stains from a historic water leak. Thank you!

Having a lime rendered wall can be a pain but this product is excellent. Whilst the wall takes more maintenance and more coats than a standard plastered wall, due to the need for breathability, it's really worth it. I use the colour Flume which is the subtlest grey and I'm very happy with the outcome.
