AMBIANT MATT WALLPAINTS - ARE A BIG DEPARTURE FOR LAKELAND, BECAUSE FOR THE FIRST TIME THESE ARE NOT ODOURLESS PAINTS.

OUR ODOURLESS PAINTS ARE UNCHANGED & AVAILABLE AS USUAL

Ambiant Matt – Weight Loss Version = The Science !

Ambiant Matt wall-paints, as invented by Lakeland Paints are lightly fragranced, functional, Wellbeing performance coatings with a number of different attributes. Lakeland Paints have combined our Unique Odourless Zero-VOC Matt with blended low-dosage, high quality, Mood fragrances to create a collection of Sensory & Mindfulness Matt finishes in 372 colours to subtly enhance your home environment – the first of which is the Weight-loss product described here.

This Weight-Loss Matt - which has been carefully formulated to emit a subtle Vanilla blend, which - according to the detailed research below - (including the National Library of Medicine, St George's Hospital & others) – such fragrances are credited with assisting in Weight loss =

Abbreviated QUOTE = "....we studied 3193 overweight volunteers…. Those subjects lost nearly 5 pounds per month". (see the link to the full research paper below).

Background & Research Papers regarding this new weight loss innovation -

(to be viewed as part of a calorie-controlled diet) – pls refer to the linked papers below.

First consideration – standard Lakeland products – including our Standard Matt - are totally Odourless and independently certified as Zero VOC, non-toxic & harmless – which means that any added fragrance can "shine through" gently without any paint smell.

The Published Research & Diet = What we eat, and how much of it - are largely governed by our senses of smell and taste – but when these senses are dulled – for example, when we have a virus, a cold etc, its well-known that our hunger is often greatly diminished. Similarly, when our sense of smell becomes exhausted due to over-stimulation by one or more particular smells, then this same loss of appetite normally results – and smells which would ordinarily be pleasurable can become unaffecting. Such an over-familiarity with some specific food fragrances, like apple, mint, banana and vanilla (amongst others) are recognized as having the potential to reduce appetite and so enable weight loss – as part of a calorie-controlled diet.

So, for example, consider a new job in a food factory – a chocolate factory, say - where on day one you indulge the free samples. Maybe also on day two. But you can be assured that by the end of the working week you will be thoroughly immune (albeit temporarily) to the delights of chocolate. This is olfactory & gustatory over-stimulation with attendant desensitization !

This phenomenon can be used to our advantage, because Lakeland paints are inherently free of odour, and so the addition of a very small amount of blended pure fragrance can be detected in the redecorated space – and the research shows that such olfactory familiarity can reduce appetite and help with weight loss. The subtle scent of the fragrance blend is not intrusive within the home and reduces gradually over time.

"Influence of smell & taste on food control….. Food choice and food intake are guided by the sense of both taste and smell, as well as by metabolic processes".

"Most studies on this topic argue that the altered chemosensory perception (taste and smell) mainly induces reduced appetite, leading to a faster fullness sensation during the consumption of a meal and, therefore, to a decrease in body weight" and

"Olfactory and gustatory dysfunction…..anosmia/dysosmia and ageusia/dysgeusia….olfactory and gustatory changes could lead to variations in eating habits and body weight".

Vanilla dulls sweet craving.

"A study at St George's hospital in Tooting, south London, has found that vanilla… can significantly reduce the appetite for chocolate and sweet foods and drinks.

Volunteers, all at least a stone overweight…… Within a month, the vanilla group's appetite for sweet foods and drinks, particularly chocolate, had dwindled. They also lost an average of 2.2kg (4.9lb).

The results of the trial, which involved between 50 and 55 people in each group, will be presented at the International Congress of Dietetics in Edinburgh…."

"Want to lose weight? sniff apples -

A study conducted by The Smelling and Taste Treatment and Research Foundation found that obese people lost more weight on smelling green apples and bananas. Our sense of smell makes us hungry. If the smell is appetizing, we end up overeating. Regularly smelling neutral sweet scents like apple, and banana, can curb our appetite and we eat less. In the long run, it means weight loss" (and also, by extension, vanilla, mint and other food smells).

"There's no doubting the powerful role smell can play in stimulating a craving—freshly baked apple pie, anyone? But here's some surprising good news: Smelling certain scents can also help you with weight loss. A study at the Smell & Taste Treatment and Research Foundation found that overweight people who smelled bananas or green apple when hunger struck lost more weight than those who didn't. It's believed that smelling "neutral" sweet smells can curb appetite, so if you don't have a banana or green apple handy, try sniffing vanilla or peppermint."

"Smelling These Scents When You're Hungry Could Help Curb Your Appetite: What's the connection between smells, appetite, and weight loss? Certain scents trigger the olfactory bulb, an organ that transmits signals from the nose to the brain to signal fullness. Once your brain gets those messages, it releases hormones throughout your body that signal to stop eating. In other words, scents suppress our appetite….which in turn makes us less hungry and less likely to overeat. A study published in the Journal of Neurological and Orthopaedic Surgery had over 3,000 overweight participants smell different scents….over the course of six months whenever they felt hungry. Scientists found that...... lost an average of five pounds per month, and maintained that amount of weight loss over the entire 6 months of the study."

Weight Reduction Through Inhalation of Odorants. January 1995

Journal of Neurological and Orthopaedic Medicine and Surgery 16(1) - 16(1). Authors: A R Hirsch

Abstract – "….we studied 3193 overweight volunteers. Each was given <:'01 inhale. containing a blend of odorants and instructed to inhale three times in each nostril whenever feeling hungry. Those subjects …..who ate 2 to 4 meals a day, felt bad about overeating, but did not feel bad about themselves, lost nearly 5 pounds, (or 2% of body weight) per month. It appears possible that inhalation of certain aromas can induce sustained weight loss over a 6-month period.(Grammar corrected).

"Did you know that smelling certain scents can help you lose weight? A new study done by the German Research Center for Food Chemistry…..when overweight people smelled bananas or green apples when they were hungry lost more weight than those who didn't. Smells that are considered "neutral" can curb appetite, so you can also try sniffing vanilla or peppermint."
